Activities & Things To Do in Thredbo
Whether you're staying for the winter ski season, or coming for a relaxing summer holiday with the family, there's plenty to do around Thredbo. Snowbound holiday chalets are situated in a convenient location, close to all that the beautiful Snowy Mountains region has to offer.
Thredbo in Winter
Thredbo ski resort is the most recognised and renowned ski area in Australia. offering skiers and snowboarders heaps of natural snow on a variety of terrains. Thredbo's elevation means the snow starts earlier and stays longer. Thredbo Ski Resort has invested in a large snowmaking system and continues to do so to ensure snow throughout the winter season.
Thredbo offers first time skiers and boarders a dedicated beginners area at Friday Flat. It is serviced by the ski school and a low speed quad chair, and a conveyor lift. For Intermediate skiers and snowboarders there is the Crackenback Supertrail, a 5.7km run from the highest lifted point in Australia to the base lodge has wide well groomed runs. Merritts area also offers some great runs. Advanced skiers and snowboarders will love Funnelweb, Cannonball and Michael's Mistake.
Of course the day would not be complete without a fabulous lunch and refreshments. We love to stop at Black Sallees, Eagles Nest, Merrits and the legendary Kareela Hut.
The annual Thredbo Top to Bottom, for both boarders and skiers, provides some amazing scenes with its Le Mans style start. Also Carnival week in mid September is another great time in a resort that's never short of a good time.
Thredbo in Summer
Thredbo has an activity to suit everyone in Summer including hiking, guided walks, golf, tennis, mountain bike riding, horse riding, white water rafting, abseiling, kids clubs, bobsled, fly-fishing & festivals.
Certainly one of the great summer activities for any visitor to Thredbo is to play one of Australia's most beautiful and challenging 9 hole golf courses. From the 375 metre 1st hole, past the Platypus Pond, through the Snake Pit, over the Fountain and down the magnificent 280 metre 9th. Thredbo Alpine Golf course is something to remember.
Hiking & Guided Walks
Thredbo Village is the departure point for some of the most beautiful walks including the walk to Mount Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest peak at 2228m.
The Thredbo Blues Festival is held in January. A 3-day celebration of blues & roots music, it is held in bars and restaurants throughout Thredbo Village. In early May Thredbo hosts a 3 day Jazz Festival enjoy some of Australia's finest Jazz musicians, including special overseas guests, while experiencing the breathtaking Thredbo mountain scenery.
The alpine region of Thredbo is ideal for mountain bike enthusiasts. There are gentle trails for beginners and serious terrain for the experts. Catch the Kosciuszko Express chairlift to the top and then try out the infamous Cannonball Run.
